An Interview with Torche’ Nash with Beingecomomical.com

There is nothing I love more than to share a good success story! Besides providing my readers work from home job opportunities, I also love to inspire you with “real life” women who have worked hard to achieve their dreams. I met Torche’ in the cyberworld and she was so kind as to share some of her expertise with me as a beginner blogger. That’s what it’s all about, right? #communityovercompetition!

I asked her if she would be so kind as to share with us her experience in hopes of inspiring another woman to follow her dreams.

What’s your name? Tell us a little about your background and how you started this blog/job?

Hi Amanda. My name is Torche’ (tor-Shay). The title of my blog is Being Eco’mom’ical. The thought of my blog came along a few years ago. It wasn’t until two years ago (in August) when I decided to actually start my blog. Before starting my blog, I was a lead preschool teacher and I wanted to find a way to create more freedom for myself and my kids.

What is your career/education background? Did you need it for your position now?

I’ve attended multiple colleges for multiple fields. I started right out of high school with fashion merchandising, then switched to early childhood education. Both of these focuses have helped me develop into the Influencers and blogger I am now.

What was your motivation behind wanting to work from home?

I wanted to create a sense of freedom beyond the summer vacation and the holiday breaks. I wanted to be able to use my creativity and my love for all things motherhood, food, fashion and travel freely with every second that I could.
I also wanted to give my kids a head start on leading a life beyond the traditional system that we all depend on so heavily. Seeing me follow my dreams will allow them to know theirs are just as important!

What was your journey like to become a blogger?

My journey was rough. It didn’t go as planned in the very beginning. I thought everything would be smooth sailing, but the truth is, it’s not! Entrepreneurship is for the strong. You have to be willing to accept losses and failures and possess the ability to be able to bounce back.

How long have you been doing this?

August of this year will make two years.

How long did it take you to become successful? Or are you still working on it?

It took a year and a half for me to be able to say I was truly successful. For me, it was being able to surpass my full-time income. Not to mention the following I’ve created, the impact I’ve had on others and the great feedback I receive from my audience and brands.

What is your day to day life like now? Is it a difference compared to when you started? How many hours do you work now?

I give myself designated hours to work on my website. I also homeschool my kids. So we start the day off with breakfast and exercise, then we start our school work and blogging work for myself.

I used to spend way more time on my site when I was trying to figure out ‘what’ to do. Now that I know what to do, I have hired a virtual assistant to help me outsource some of the tasks, as I focus on solely creating more content.

Can you give a ballpark figure on how much you make each month or per hour?

It varies from month to month, but the base would be around $3,000 minimum.

At what point did you think this is going to be a reliable income?

I intentionally gave myself a year. Although it took a few months longer (a year and a half), I am more than satisfied at the progress I’ve made!

If you could go back what would you have done differently from the beginning?

The only thing I would change was starting sooner! Knowing what I know now, I would have started my blog over my last summer break, while still having a reliable source of income from teaching.

I was still wanting to obtain my Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education. I was going to school full-time online to do so, although my heart wasn’t really in it. I knew it had to be done to get further into my career.

Knowing what I know now, I would have traded the time I spent obtaining a degree I still don’t have, for building my blog during those hours each day.

What Tips do you have for balancing working at home and taking care of your children?

Outsource when possible and don’t be afraid to ask for help! Hiring a virtual assistant has been a game changer in my business and at home.

I don’t feel strapped for time anymore. I have more time to actually enjoy outings with my kids and family without worrying about what needs to get done. I also designated blocks out of my day for work. So whatever doesn’t get done in that time frame, has to wait until the next day.

Me knowing that things not getting done is ok, was something that I had to understand. I had to learn how to take the pressure of myself and trust the process of growth. It doesn’t happen overnight. So being stern with yourself and your schedule is key!

What’s the best advice you would give to someone who is thinking of working from home?

Don’t be afraid of failure. Expect things to get worse before they get better and learn to accept that. That way, you won’t be too hard on yourself when things go left.

Get back up and try again. Keep a list! Ask for help when needed and overall, keep a positive attitude; it will get you further than any amount of work you do.
