While blogging is a great start to making money as a writer, there are many other ways to make money as a freelance writer. The internet has opened the doors for so many opportunities for writers to make money, other than blogging. From writing and publishing your own book to starting your own freelance writing business, the options are truly endless. Today I’m going to focus on a handful of ways you can make money as a writer to help inspire you to use your writing skills to earn some cash for your household.

Pitch your Alma Mater

If your college has an alumni magazine consider pitching them to write as a paid writer for their magazine. Often times they’ll prefer to hire former students and if you have the skill to write they’ll be more than happy to entertain the idea of having you write for their alumni magazine.

Self-Publish a Book

My friend, Brandy, from Brandy Ellen Writes self-published a book with her then 9-year-old daughter. Using Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing is pretty easy. You can work to develop your own book, get proofs to review the paperback version of your book and even sell your self-published book on Kindle with this easy to use platform. You can check it out here.

Content Sites

There are many online sites that hire writers. The content sites are easier to work for as they find the clients and then assign you writing work based on their clients’ needs. While the pay does vary for this type of work and is often per word in pricing, it can be quite lucrative if you’re really good at writing. TextBroker is a site that hires writers at a pay per word rate.

Fiverr

Believe it or not, many writers have started their freelance writing business with Fiverr. Just one $5 gig on this site can be upgraded to other options that start earning you money for writing without having a blog. You sign up for free here , create a profile and start listing gigs. Share your gigs on social media to help gain more exposure and make more money using this platform. You can also take some pretty inexpensive courses on Fiverr to help you master new skills.

Upwork

This site used to be known as Elance and hires many work from home professionals. You can create your own freelancer profile on Upwork and then start searching for content writing jobs. This is won’t make you as much money as setting your own price, but it is a great way to start making money as a writer, other than blogging.

These options to make money as a writer are a perfect way to get your feet wet in the world of freelance writing. If you enjoy writing and want to find new ways to make money with your skill, then please, by all means, start looking into the options I’ve shared with you today. I look forward to seeing how well these options work for you.
